Packages are now available for Japan's premiere winter event: the Sapporo Snow Festival! These 2-day or 3-day packages include round-trip flights between Tokyo's Haneda Airport and Sapporo's New Chitose Airport and accommodations (with breakfast) in Sapporo. Choose from three different flight time slots as well as accommodation in one of seven hotels located near Sapporo Station or the main location of the festival, Odori Park!
About the Snow Festival
Sapporo's snow festival had its humble beginnings in 1950, when some local high school students decided to build six statues in Sapporo's Odori Park. Since then, the event has grown exponentially, with hundreds of snow statues and ice sculptures adorning the city in Odori Park and the streets of Susukino, plus the massive snow and ice slides at Tsudome. The festival attracts about 2 million tourists each year from Japan and all over the world!
About the Package
Packages are available with flights leaving each day from February 6th to 12th, 2010. Besides some assitance from staff in checking in for your flight on the first day, this package is guide-less and group-less (except for any of your personal travel companions), so you can enjoy the festival and the city of Sapporo at your own pace. It includes round-trip airfare from Haneda Airport in Tokyo to New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, accommodations at the hotel of your choice from a list of twelve, and breakfast at the hotel.
With your traveling freedom in mind, departure flights from Haneda (Tokyo) and return flights from New Chitose (Hokkaido) have three time slots each that you can choose from (the flight takes about an hour and a half):
Leaving Haneda:
• Morning: between 6:50 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
• Afternoon: between 11:00 a.m. and 2:50 p.m.
• Evening: between 3:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Leaving New Chitose:
• Morning: between 7:50 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
• Afternoon: between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
• Evening: between 4:00 p.m. and 9:10 p.m.
The 2-day package is great for those just interested in the festival, but for those wanting to do a little sightseeing, the 3-day package gives you one more full day to explore.

Sapporo
Sapporo, the largest city on Japan's northern island, is well known for its delicious food. One of the most famous local dishes is Sapporo ramen, a variant on the famous Chinese noodle dish. The ramen served with miso soup is especially tasty. There are a lot of ramen restaurants around the city center, and some of these are now expanding to establish branches all around Japan.
Sapporo is also home to the Sapporo Breweries Co., which started brewing beer in 1876 and is the oldest Japanese-constructed beer brewery in the country. There are numerous beer halls in the city where visitors can go and enjoy Sapporo beer while eating a type of mutton barbeque known as jingisukan (named after Mongolian warlord Genghis Khan), another Sapporo specialty.
There are numerous parks, museums, and gardens around town, not to mention a bustling nightlife scene in the Susukino area, so why not take an extra day to enjoy the Snow Festival, take in some sights, and chow down on some awesome food!
