The 2017 Sapporo Snow Festival will showcase a huge selection of impressive snow sculptures as always, but this year there's one that will be a real treat for gamers: Final Fantasy VII!
Titled "Decisive Battle! Final Fantasy in Snow", the sculpture at the Odori 4-chome Site will carve out a battle scene between Sephiroth and a Buster Sword-wielding Cloud, and will be the first in the history of the Sapporo Snow Festival to incorporate the latest Hi-Res audio 7.1ch surround sound system. At night from 5pm to 10pm, fans can also look forward to an original 3D projection mapping of images from FFVII Advent Children and the upcoming Remake.
With January 31st 2017 marking 20 years exactly since the initial release of FFVII in Japan, Square Enix has confirmed it is fully remaking FFVII for the PS4. Using the latest cutting-edge CG technology, it will retell the original story of mercenary Cloud Strife and eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE's battle against the Shinra megacorporation.
To commemorate this project and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise, this year's Sapporo Snow Festival (February 6~12) will feature a massive snow sculpture based on Final Fantasy VII. This is an once-in-a-lifetime showcase for Final Fantasy fans that shouldn't be missed! For those not so into games, there are also plenty of other amazing snow sculptures on display in addition to stunning illumination at night, so the festival is guaranteed to be a feast for the eyes.
